Organiser Terry Domagala reports
Today's match, rearranged from a previous match which was abandoned due to the weather, saw Captain David Barlow in his last match as senior Captain.
Leaving home in the
dark for a 9am first tee was a sure sign autumn is with us, and what was
looking to be a dull chilly day turned out to be a very pleasant day for the
final game of the season.
David went out first with Peter Imray, building up a three-hole lead which turned out
to be not enough as a strong Luffenham pair was able to pull it back, with
David needing to sink a tricky putt on the 18th to secure a draw.
The 2nd
pair of Dave Wood and Terry Domagala were in the same position, only to see
Luffenham Captain Martin Old sink his bunker shot on the signature 17th
for a Birdie, and to lose the 18th to get the same draw.
The dream team
3rd pair of Steve Mathers and Warren Churms was involved in what
Luffenham Vice Captain Martyn Gatehouse described as a brilliant game of golf
to win 2-1.
Paul Dobson and
David Price came in with another honourable draw, to be followed by a defeat for Chris Roy and Neil Pinnington. The steady pair of Paul Jones and Trevor
Darrington had a good 3&2 win followed by a 3&2 defeat for the final pair of Tony
Walters and Geoff Elcome.
After a brief
lunch of sandwiches and chips the results were announced, and the nearest the pin
prize of an engraved crystal glass was awarded to Steve Mathers.
The game ended
with a respectable draw 3½ to 3½ seeing David's Captaincy finish won 11, lost
11, drawn 7 with 1 match abandoned.
A big thank you
to David Wood and David Price for standing in at the last minute.

Terry Domagala and Dave Wood: Halved
