Finalists, from left, Cav Kendall, Michael Newstead, Malcolm Roberts and Jack Shepherd
The final of the Seniors Foursomes Knockout was refereed by Nigel Underwood who also wrote this report:
A bright, fresh, Autumn morning greeted the protagonists for the final of the Senior's Foursomes knockout.
Cavan Kendall and Michael Newstead had battled through to take on Jack Shepherd and Malcolm Roberts.
A keen contest was anticipated although with a competition on the JoG, it was going to be slow!
A long putt by Cav at the 1st for a four and an astonishing up and down from the left trees at four saw Messrs Kendall and Newstead two up, but steady, consistent play by Malcolm and Jack enabled them to reach the turn all square.
A solid tap in 3 at 11 enabled Jack and Malcolm to edge into a lead which they would never relinquish. An amazing chip from a bunker edge by Malcom, converted by Jack at 13 put them 2 up, then a birdie at 15 (just 3 really good shots) put them dormie 3 up.
After a very lengthy wait, the 16th was halved, resulting in a win for Jack and Malcolm by a well deserved margin of 3 and 2.
Many congratulations to them, and commiserations to the runners up, Michael and Cav, who put up a good fight but could not quite match the consistency of their opponents.
