Paul Jones receives the Rex Cleaver Championship Trophy from Senior Captain Tony Lloyd
The answer is you wait until one of the last players to tee off comes in with an amazing score that steals the prize from under their noses.
That's what happened when 83 seniors competed for the Rex Cleaver Championship Trophy - a medal from the John O'Gaunt white tees.
Eric McIntyre had been leading all day with what seemed like an unbeatable nett 68. Then in came Paul Jones, fresh from his victory at the Forest Pines Seniors Tour, with nett 67.
All was not lost for Eric though as he won the Bessant East Scratch Trophy for the best gross score of 80.
In third place was Sam Standen with nett 71.
The weather forecast had been worrying, with heavy rain and winds gusting 40mph due to spoil the party. In the event we all stayed relatively dry with a little sunshine breaking through for the late starters.
The victory shot Paul up to joint first place in the Golfer of the Year stakes alongside Dave Wrench on 39 points. In third place with 35 points is Ian Simpson.
Raffle prizes of £10 each were won by Dave Wrench, Rafe Bateson, Peter Jarman and Paul Hammond.
