Senior Captain Tony Lloyd reports on the Longest Day Challenge

Four Captains joined forces on the longest day of the year to raise much-needed funds for their joint charity, the Alzheimer's Society.
Thirty-six holes in 33 Deg C was a tough test but 13.7 miles later they shook hands, tired but proud to have completed the challenge.
The first round began at 8.30am and the Captains decided to add a bit of fun by making it a girls v boys contest. It was closely-fought but Jackie and Lucy emerged winners 2&1.
After a well-earned lunch break, the second round began just after 2pm following the juniors taking part in the Tavistock Trophy. This time we played singles stableford with the honours going to Club Captain Peter Wade with 38 points.
Some welcome cloud cover developed but half way round it lifted and the temperature soared once again. At that point we were happy that we were "only" doing 36 holes as opposed to the 54 holes completed by last year's Captains.
It was great to see so many members turning up to support the Captains and, at the same time, enjoying coffee and cake in exchange for a charity donation.
There was also a raffle in the pro shop to add to the interest for Saturday morning golfers.
But by far the largest fund-raising contribution came from the many generous supporters who pledged money through the Captains' joint Just Giving page.
By Monday the amount donated had reached a whopping £1,655. With the raffle and coffee morning the total was just over £2,000.
A heartfelt thanks from all four captains to everyone who helped to make the day such a great success.
