It was a record roll-up on Thursday August 31 on many levels.
🥲 a record low turn-out (possibly) of nine, until one dropped out injured. This may have been due to the English Boys County Finals taking place on John O’Gaunt for which some regulars had volunteered as markers or scorers
😀 a record high score of 49 achieved by Peter Imray and Ian Riches - only beaten in the Steve Cooper era when Steve and Ian scored 50
🥲a near record round of over four and a half hours for the three ball of David Crosby, Ian Riches and Peter Imray who were stuck behind a group who declined to let them through
😀the first time Paul Jones entered a card without a six on it
😀the first time Peter Imray shot a gross score below his age. If you were wondering, age 74, gross score 73
😀which goes to show you never know what to expect at the roll-up. If you haven’t experienced this, just turn up in the conservatory between 8.30 and 9.15 on a Tuesday or Thursday clutching a ball and £1 and you will be made most welcome
Editor’s note: Alan Curtis informs me that he and Dave Gauge also came in with 50 points, which he says was not uncommon in the Steve Cooper era. If you know of equally impressive scores please post a comment below
