Seniors Member and Guest Day August 1 2023

Seniors Section Captain Jonathan Lean with winners Paul Beasley and his guest John Maynard

When you invite people round it’s always good to impress. And John O’Gaunt was at its glorious best for the Senior Section Member and Guest Day.

As Senior Section Captain Jonathan Lean pointed out, the warm, wet July resulted in near perfect conditions for the 88 members and guests taking part in this popular competition on the John O’Gaunt course.

The weather was kind given the unsettled conditions of late and everyone enjoyed a dry, sunny round with a gentle breeze.

Winners on 43 points were Paul Beasley and John Maynard who won £25 each in addition to the Member and Guest Trophy.

In second place on 41 points were Greg and James Whitecross and in third place, also on 41 points but beaten on countback were Peter Brooks and Andrew Avern-Love.

Commiserations to Len Greaves and Peter Hayzelden who also scored 41 points but narrowly missed out on the prizes.

Nearest the pin prizes of a bottle of wine were won by Jamie Orton on the 16th and Len Greaves on the 4th. Nearest the pin in two on the 10th was won by David Robinson, who hit the green and holed out, and nearest the pin in two on the 1st was won by Richard Knell.

Straightest drive in the 8th was won by Barry Donovan.

Presenting the prizes, Seniors Captain Jonathan Lean praised the organisers, Nigel and Sabrina Underwood, for the hard work they had put into making it such an enjoyable day and Clubhouse Manager Paula who managed to juggle the needs of the competition with an important function next door in the Burgoyne Suite. Entrants enjoyed bacon rolls and coffee on arrival as well as mid round snacks and  hearty meal of sausage and mash afterwards.
