Seniors away to South Beds September 14 2022

 Organiser Tony Goodson reports

The match had an unusual 1st tee start time at 12:00, with an expected arrival time of 11.00 for coffee and a bacon roll. The late start had the advantage of faster travel times due to off peak traffic.

The weather was dry and sunny.  The course was in good condition with lots of grass on the fairways. I thought that the greens were slower than JOG’s, but with lots of slopes (that’s my excuse for a lot of missed putts).  The course was very open in general, although still with plenty of trees!  I only lost one ball, but found 2.

My game with Captain Algy against their captain Paul Burgess and Harry Scott was very close all the way. We were all square for the first 2 holes and one up for next 3 holes,  all square for next 4 holes, one up for the next 4. We were then all square. They then went ahead and stayed 1 up for the next 4 holes, winning 1:0.  Overall JOG won 4.5 – 3.5.  A good result reflecting most of the games.

The meal was scheduled for 5:30pm.  We had a two meat carvery of gammon and turkey , followed by chocolate sponge.  The meal was well received, leaving a lot of empty plates, always a sign of a good meal.  Our hosts looked after us well in the accepted fashion.  I left about 6:45pm.  At least we did not have to consider another meal when we got home.
