Match organiser Gerry Degaute reports
We arrived at Harpenden Common on a very pleasant September morning and with good memories of our 7-1 win over them back in May.
Their organiser had done an excellent job including provision of a hard copy of the fully completed team sheet for all players and marked up cards for each 4 ball match.
This may explain our overly benevolent behaviour in the opening match to allow our opponents to go 2 up after two, which included their captain getting a birdie on the first.
Algy and I never recovered from this early setback with their high handicap player utilising his shots to the extent he won them all on a nett basis concluding with nett par on the 15th.
Our benevolence in the top match seemed to spread through the majority of our team but I should mention Trevor Darrington/Richard Westergreen-Thorne and Andy Shilton/Andy Lawrence recorded wins whilst Andy Brown/Ray Smart secured a half.
Ergo we lost 5.5-2.5. The three-tee start coupled with a rolling lunch of the golfing standard of steak and ale pie followed by apple crumble meant a very enjoyable day was concluded by early afternoon.
