Seniors Captain Tony Lloyd and Vice Captain David Barlow with their Luffenham Heath opponents
Organiser David Barlow reports
Another day in golfing paradise as your warm senior team took on Luffenham Heath on the John O’ Gaunt course. Most of us took advantage of the Titleist ball fitting stall and walked away with 4 free balls. I think our guests were impressed.
Match 1. Tony Lloyd (Captain) and David Barlow (Organiser). Match halved.
An opponent’s runaway trolley was captured by a vigilant green keeper just before it entered the pond on #4. A very tight match, lots of halves, and where Tony’s nett eagle on #7 was only good for a half. All square at the turn. Down, level, and 2 up with 3 to play. Surely? No. Lost #16. Lost #17. Both opponents on the 18th green in (nett).1. Enter my hero, your captain, to hole a testing five footer to make it a halved match and use his “Mexican handicap” (their words, not mine). Well done skipper!
Match 2. Andy Brown and Michael Newstead. Lost 1 down.
A tight match, valiantly fought. Just not quite enough.
Match 3.. Peter Imray and Barry Donovan. Won 4&3.
A putting masterclass from Barry. Well done!
Match 4. Chris Saunders and Martyn Graham. Won 6&4.
A comfortable win for our pair…. I believe Martyn played particularly well although he was far too modest to say this.
Match 5. Terry Sweeney and Paul Life. Match halved.
Paul’s only comment to me was, “It was always going to be a draw. We could have stayed in the bar and agreed on a half.”
Match 6. Paul Jones and Steve Luckman. Won 5&3.
Paul gave much of the credit to Steve who he said played really well. Well done both.
Match 7. Jed Isbell and Paul Dobson. Won 2&1.
A man of few words, Jed wouldn’t give me a “headline” for the blog. He said, “We won! Report that!” I think I just did…
Match 8. Jonathan Lean and Steve Mathers. Won 5&4.
My motivational talk to Steve before the match worked, so the credit for him playing well is all mine….
. Well done Steve (for listening to me ) and Jonathan too.

NTP #17.
Steve Mathers (me again!)
Food. Cajun chicken and chips. Sticky toffee pudding and custard. Lots of clean plates. A good meal choice (me again!)
Match result. A win!
John O’ Gaunt Seniors 6 points. Luffenham Heath Seniors 2 points.
Running JOG tally
Won 11
Lost 10
