Three Clubs and a Putter, October 12 2021

Seniors Section Captain Bill Walker presents Paul Hammond with the winner’s trophy

Who needs a full set of clubs? That might have been the question on many lips after the high-scoring Three Clubs and a Putter competition.
Sixty six seniors signed up for the competition which was played in mostly pleasant conditions from the Carthagena yellows with just a bit of drizzle towards the end of the day.
The winner, with an impressive 41 points, was Paul Hammond, aka Mr 3-wood, who on this occasion played with a 19 degree hybrid, a seven iron and a 55 degree wedge which he used only a couple of times. The eight handicapper recorded three birdies, 10 pars and four bogeys, with only one double bogey on his card.
The win gives Paul an unassailable lead of 27 points in the Senior Section Golfer of the Year Competition. The other top five places are still very much up for grabs.
In second place in the Three Clubs and a Putter competition was Paul Jeeves, also on 41 points but pipped on countback.
Third place went to Philip Armstrong with 40 points. Commiserations to David Patrick who also got 40 points but lost on countback.
Reinforcing the message that three clubs is more than enough, 15 players recorded a score of 36 points and over. There were 260 pars and 26 birdies.
Raffle prizes were won by Andy Shilton, Sam Standen, Ian Murray and Richard Herbert and the competition raised £195 for Captain Bill’s charity Macmillan Cancer Support.

Hello all
Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone at the club for making me feel so welcome.
It has been a great delight for me playing decent golf again after 26 years out from playing.
On such magnificent courses and with such delightful people.
Thank you all
Paul aka MR. 3 Wood xx
