Fergus Moynihan RIP

Fergus Moynihan passed peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of Saturday morning, surrounded by his family who point out ‘the only sunny day for ages’.  Fergus, Doc Moynihan, had been a member of the Club for 40 years; a General Committee member for many years, as Course Chairman he was instrumental in bringing the JOG 4th pond to fruition and a huge advocate for all of the wildlife conservation work at the Club; and he also served proudly as the Senior Section Captain in 2010.

Fergus maintained his playing membership until only very recently with the onset of deteriorating health, but he still enjoyed the occasional ‘few holes’ with his son, and fellow member, Tim.

However, it was perhaps his ‘day job’ that Fergus was known and will be remembered so fondly by many members from the Ashwell area where he was the GP for many years, looking after them and their loved ones with great devotion.

Fergus’s family, to whom the sincere condolences of all members and staff at his Club are offered, will be holding a private funeral; the family are planning a memorial service to be held on 2 November - further details will be issued when known.

Fergus in happier times after scoring a hole in one

Fergus recorded a hole-in-one - his first ever - at the Aesopians Society meeting on Monday February 21 2022. He achieved the feat on the Carthagena 2nd hole with a 140 yard shot with a five wood.
