Most pairings managed to avoid the (much needed) rain for 9
or so holes but after that is was mainly wet weather golf. JOG conceded
too many shots and the Stags were able to reverse the away result with a 4.5 to
3.5 victory. Phil White had to concede 19 shots to the opposition with Jim
Peacock but they went down fighting being 4 down at the turn to all square on
the last but losing to an exceptional bunker shot. Steve Foster and Keith Fuller
managed a half. There were wins for Brian Bullen and Steve Collins 4/3 and for
Nick Seeley and Colin Fox 2/1. Colin scored two 2’s on 10th and 16th
but also played the wrong ball twice and at lunch made the observation “should
have gone to Specsavers”. There was a good win for the final pairing of Jim Kerr and
Malcolm Falconer 3/2.
Seniors Captain Fred had a stroke of good fortune holing out
with his second shot to the 7th( (with a shot) for a net Albatross
but even that bit of luck was of no avail as he and Keith Hargreaves lost 2
down.
Several contenders for JOG nearest the pin which was won by
Keith Hargreaves who just lipped out his birdie putt from close range.
The power was off when the teams arrived and it was touch
and go whether there would be a lunch. Some rumour about fish and chips led to
at least one group buying white wine instead of red when we sat down to an
enjoyable roast pork with crackling followed by bread and butter pudding with
custard.
