Seniors away to Bedford and County Tuesday March 19, 2024

Match organiser Terry Domagala reports

Tuesday saw the first of this year's seniors matches and the first under Richard Westergreen-Thorne's Captaincy, which was played against Bedford and County away.

The match was not confirmed as being able to be played until Monday morning, with the Clapham course suffering from many weeks of heavy rain and only being opened to a full 18 holes on Tuesday.

Richard, paired with match organiser Terry Domagala, was unable to match last year's Captain Jonathan Lean's flying start, losing 5 and 4 to Bedford and County Captain Chris Bareford and partner Dave Lawson.

Second pairing Nigel Underwood and Chris Roy were able to level the score to 1 each, with a 4 and 3 victory in their match.

John O’Gaunt then had to wait until the final pairing of David Price and Andrew Lawrence before they would put any more points on the board, with the team going down to a 4-2 defeat.

Despite the wet conditions of some parts of the course, the greens ran very nicely for the time of year. The match was played with pick and place anywhere outside of a hazard.

The match was followed with splendid hospitality in the club house, and a meal of steak pie followed by apple strudel.

Match organiser Terry Domagala would like to thank all those that took part in the match, and Bedford and county for their hospitality.
