David Tamsitt is presented with the trophy by Seniors Captain Jonathan Lean
It looked as if it was all over bar the shouting … until David Tamsitt, one of the last players on the course, stole their thunder with an impressive 40 points.
That left Richard Knell in second place with 39 points and Richard Herbert in third also with 39. Commiserations to Jack Shepherd who narrowly missed a prize with 38 points.
David achieved the victory using a 3 hybrid, an 8 iron and a sand wedge in a round which included a blob on the first and a birdie on the 12th for five points.
And, as if we didn’t already know that you don’t need a full set of clubs, 14 players scored 36 points or more.
Sixty players competed in warm, sunny conditions on the Carthagena course.
Raffle prizes were won by Ian Maddison, Richard Westergreen-Thorne, Pete Hoskins and Dave Wood. Each will receive £10 on their pro shop accounts.
The result leaves Richard Knell leading the Golfer of the Year competition with 61 points, followed by Andy Brown (60), Dave Wrench (60), Keith Howlett (51) and Geoff Scott (50). With one more GOTY event to come there is still all to play for.
