Seniors Autumn Singles Stableford Trophy October 17 2023

Senior Section Captain Jonathan Lean presents winner Neil Pinnington with the trophy

The final Senior Section qualifier of the year resulted in not one, but two winners … by also deciding the winner of the Golfer of the Year competition.

The weather also played its part with the competition being moved to Carthagena at the last minute because of wet conditions on John O’Gaunt where the 13th hole was out of action.

The club agreed to the switch on the eve of the competition and all went swimmingly until the Competition Secretary and Blog Editor Tony Lloyd failed to change the tees from yellow to white. (Apologies, schoolboy error! Ed)

In the event the competition was played in sunny, albeit breezy at times, conditions.

Winner of the Trophy was Neil Pinnington whose score of 42 points included two blobs and a birdie on the 2nd. Incredibly this was Neil’s first victory in a Seniors competition in 12 years.

In second place with 40 points was Graham Gadsden, who also made birdie on the second. This was also Graham’s first podium place in a Seniors competition.

In third place on 39 points was Rob Bage, whose consistency has seen him in the Senior Section winners’ circle many times.

Commiserations to Rob Isaacson and Peter Jarman whose 38 points was not quite enough to cut the mustard.

The result decided the Golfer of the Year competition with Andy Brown victorious on 70 points ahead of Richard Knell (61), Dave Wrench (60), Rob Bage (60) and David Tamsitt (53).

Raffle prize winners were Phil Odell, Rob Bage, Dave Tamsitt and Jonathan Lean. £10 will be added to their pro shop accounts.

Second place: Graham Gadsden

Third place: Rob Bage
