What a remarkable victory! No, not England’s 2-0 win against their old sporting foes Germany at Wembley but John O’Gaunt Seniors’ home match against Letchworth, our first victory since the pandemic lockdown interrupted the golfing programme.
The weather was kind, with just one light shower. All went well under covid restrictions and the squad recorded a good win 5 to 3 against very good side. The Letchworth players were very impressed with the John O’ Gaunt course, which is a credit to the ground staff, and the players enjoyed a splendid meal prepared by the kitchen staff.
The match was a good win for J.O.G, in particular three good wins for Ray Smart & Steve Collins 6/5, Brian Bullen & Len Greaves 5/4, Sam Standen & Peter Grimes 5/3. All under the leadership of captain Bill Walker. A special thanks to Terry Sweeney & Colin Newbury for coming in at late notice and to organiser Peter Jarman.
