It was what everyone had been waiting for - the first competition of the year and, yes, warm sunny weather.
Sixty-eight ladies and seniors set out on the John O'Gaunt course for their annual Mixed Greensomes event. Some even ended the day in shirt sleeves as Spring showed that it is just around the corner.
Scoring was on the low side with only four couples scoring 36 points or more.
Commiserations to Judith Abraham and Warren Churms who scored 36 points but were pushed into fourth place on countback.
In third place, also on 36 points were Olga Ebsworth and Jed Isbell who each received £15 pro shop vouchers.
Runners up, on 37 points and rewarded with £20 pro shop vouchers, were Margaret Budgen and Barry Donovan.
But the winners, on 38 points and presented with £30 pro shop vouchers, were Ladies Captain Jackie Lansdown and Seniors Captain David Barlow. Our victors had blobbed the first hole but fought back strongly at the very next hole.
Most players stayed on after the competition, resulting in a great atmosphere for the presentation at our first event of the season.
