A year of charitable work at John O'Gaunt - and the prospect of another great year to come - was celebrated with a Texas Scramble in sunny, if breezy, conditions on the JOG course followed by friendly banter in the clubhouse over drinks and pulled pork baps and the now traditional putt out and drive off by the captains.
After the putt out by retiring captains Peter Wade, Jackie Lansdown, Lucy Edwards and Tony Lloyd, a cheque for £21,000 was presented to a representative of their chosen charity, Alzheimer's Society.
Then came the spectacle of the new captains - Paul Fletcher, Jean Cobb, David Barlow and William Gilbert - driving off down the JOG 1st to applause and good natured comments from the assembled crowd.
Their chosen charities are Garden House Hospice, Letchworth and St John's Hospice, Sue Ryder, Moggerhangar.
Earlier, in testing conditions, the winners with an impressive score of nett 53 were Nigel Gray, Gerald Keegan, Kevin Kiernan and Douglas Lawson.
In second place, on 54, were James de Caux, Dean Kane, Mark Washtell and Carl Williams.
And in third place, with 56, were George Burnham, Cav Kendall, Karl Kendall and Eric McIntire.
New Seniors Captain David Barlow, his Vice Captain Terry Domagala, Past Captain Tony Lloyd and Matches Secretary Algy Grimes came in with 57 shots to take 5th place.
Thanks to Algy for the photos below.
