Prostate Cancer Charity Day April 14 2025

Winners Dave Wood and Warren Churms receive the Jock Allan Trophy from Mike Collins

One hundred John O'Gaunt members and guests turned out in glorious sunshine to take part in the Jock Allan Prostate Cancer Charity Day - a far cry from last year when a freak lightning storm interrupted proceedings.

With a 9am shotgun start for a full house of 100 entrants, everyone was back in the clubhouse at the same time to add to the enjoyable atmosphere.

But before that, a first for John O'Gaunt: a visit to the Prostate Project Man Van paid for by charity days such as ours.

Once registered, a total of 106 men took advantage of the Prostate Cancer Blood Test.

Sitting down in the Burgoyne Suite and Sports Bar we enjoyed sausage and mash followed by crumble and custard before counting down the end of the charity auction which raised a whopping £3,152.

Then on to the prizes.

In 3rd place in the fourball betterball competition with 43 points were Paul Dobson and Alan Emm.

In 2nd place, also on 45 points, were Alison Oakley and Amy White.

But the winners, with 45 points, were Dave Wood and Warren Churms.

Many thanks to our morning helpers Pat Lloyd, Jean Peacock and Barbara Stokes for distributing scorecards and selling raffle tickets, to Nigel Underwood for organising the competition, David Barlow for running the online auction and Bill Walker for heading up the operation and working tirelessly to get the Man Van on site for the day.

The whole day raised over £6,000 for the Prostate Project. And, as Bill said in his closing speech, we might just have saved someone's life ... priceless!
