Seniors at home to Letchworth June 28 2022

Match organiser Peter Jarman reports

We faced Letchworth on a dry but breezy day with sunny periods.

I had the pleasure of playing the first game with stand-in captain Jonathan Lean, which was a close-run affair. Our opponents hit the ground running and the Letchworth Captain Satnam Singh, playing with a handicap index of 12.6, was one under gross after four holes, putting them two up. After that it was nip and tuck but with the Letchworth organiser Saba Jithilingam playing better than his handicap tipping the balance in Letchworth’s favour. Of the 17 competitive holes played only two were halved.

The Carthagena course, although getting a little brown, played true and many players recorded their longest drive of the year aided by a brisk breeze and hard fairways.

Victories were recorded by Bob Anderson and Paul Hammond 2&1,  Keith Perry & Nick Seeley 5&4 against everyone’s favourite Gerry Gentle, Andrew Lawrence and Neil Pinnington  3 & 2, Ian Riches and Sam Standen 3 & 1.

The other matches were all lost. So the result was 4 games all, a fair outcome for both teams on a very pleasant day for everyone.

A delicious lunch was much appreciated and the Vice-Captain had everyone rolling in the aisles with his hilarious joke!

Additional reporting by Jonathan Lean, particularly the line about his hilarious joke!

At last a decent joke reported. Sadly I wasn't playing so missed it. Perhaps the VC can pass it on to the Captain for reuse๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ
