Seniors Captain Tony Lloyd and organiser Chris Dennis with their South Beds opponents
Organiser Chris Dennis reports
We all turned up at South Beds full of confidence to gain an away win but things didn’t turn out as hoped.
The weather forecast had been for rain, heavy at times, thunder and lightning. In the event it we got sunshine and a few showers - the only nuisance being continually putting on and removing waterproofs.
Myself and Captain Tony had an enjoyable and friendly match which we narrowly lost 2&1.
The tone was set on the relatively easy Par 3 1st which both sides messed up comprehensively. The South Beds Captain Jack totted up the combined score ... 23 shots!
But the highlight of the day came on the 16th tee. The advice to Tony was hit it over the 5 bar gate ahead of us (60 yards away) but Tony unfortunately hit it up against the gate (the photo below shows his predicament).
The dream team of Andy Brown and David Barlow fared better, halving their match.
Their opponents were so impressed they told their Captain: "These guys should be on Sky TV." It wasn't clear whether they meant Sky Golf of Sky Comedy!
Dave commented afterwards: “It was close and a real battle”. I think the battle scrambled Dave’s mind because he hunted around the changing room for ages looking for his kit bag until it dawned on him it was in his car

The next two matches were lost 4&3 and 3&2. Jonathan’s only comment was “we couldn’t recover after being 4 down after 5 holes”.
Paul and Terry did very well to secure our first win by 1up so we were hopeful the matches to follow would go our way
but the next two matches were lost 4&3 and 2&1 with Gerry’s comment whilst shaking his head “we were 4 up after 6”.

Well done to Trevor and Paul who emphatically won the last match 6&4
So overall we lost 5 1/2 to 2 1/2
Disappointment turned to delight as we sat down to a meal of steak and ale pie and chips followed by cheesecake and fruit compote.
Individual scores:
Tony Lloyd and Chris Dennis: Lost 2&1
David Barlow and Andy Brown: Halved
Steve Mathers and Alban Macdonald: Lost 4&3
Jonathan Lean and Graham Gadsden: Lost 3&2

Phil Armstrong and Dick Cobb: lost 4&3
Gerry Degaute and Tony Goodson: lost 2&1
