Seniors at home to Bedford and County Sept 19 2025

Tony Lloyd and Terry Domagala with their Bedford and County opponents

Seniors Captain Tony Lloyd reflects on a thumping victory to end a season of 30 Inter Club matches

Well there we are. Another season of Senior Section matches comes to a close.
We opened our campaign at Bedford and County back in March - my first match as Captain - and I am still haunted by my tee shot which squirted 50 yards left into the trees. We lost that match 5-3, a rude introduction to my new duties.
So it was appropriate that our last match was at home to that very same club - and this time it was a different story.
Terry Domagala was once again organiser and I knew I could rely on him to save the day if my recent run of good form hit the buffers.
As it was, we got off to a great start and we were 2 up by the 6th on the gloriously lush John O'Gaunt course.
Our opponents knuckled down but we were never less than 1 up for the rest of the game and we sewed the match up on the 15th with a 4&3 win.
The weather was glorious and the course in superb condition. Bedford and County, like many courses without irrigation, has suffered from this year's drought and our opponents seemed happy to be playing on our lush fairways despite their fortunes.
I had to admit to them that my nickname is "Tony Two Shots" and they saw the funny side - I think!
All was forgiven in the clubhouse over a refreshing beer and a meal of gammon, bubble and squeak and peas followed by apple tart and custard.
Their captain, Richard Shortland, couldn't resist exacting revenge by comparing me in his after-dinner speech to Dick Turpin!
But then he had to reveal the awful truth to his team - that John O'Gaunt had won 7-1.
