Seniors Captain Jonathan Lean presents Dave Wrench with the Annual Medal Trophy
The Annual Medal and Jubilee Cup is always full of twists and turns, tales of amazing putts holed and unlucky ones shaving the hole. All to be debated over a drink in the clubhouse.
But this year a new record was set which may never be beaten. More of which later.
The winner, with an impressive nett 62, was Dave Wrench, whose round included nine pars and seven bogeys.
In second place, with nett 64, was Malcolm Roberts and in third, with nett 65, was Richard Herbert, whose 40 stableford points also won him the Jubilee Cup for those with a playing handicap of 21 and over.
The weather was kind and the Carthagena course was at its Spring best for the 88 players taking part. (See spectacular photo of bluebells on the 17th below).
Raffle prizes were won by David Crosby, Terry Sweeney, Graham Berry and David Patrick who will each have £10 credited to their pro shop account.
Two players, Jim McIlwaine and Malcolm Roberts, shared a whopping prize pool of £168 for the Twos Club, receiving £84 each. Commiserations to the three qualifying players who didn’t hand over their £2.
The result shook up the Golfer of the Year leaderboard, leaving Dave Wrench in pole position, followed by Andy Brown in second place with Paul Hammond and Malcolm Roberts in equal 3rd place.
Now to that record - 28 strokes on the third hole which included 23 shots in the bunker. Even IG could not cope with it as the maximum score it would record on one hole is 19.
For data protection reasons the Blog Editor has decided not to reveal the name of the player involved. But Trevor Darrington did say afterwards: "Will you point out that I birdied the next hole?"
If you find yourself in a similar predicament and you decide your ball is unplayable, before taking 23 shots and reaching for a Hamlet cigar, you might like to acquaint yourself with Rule 19.3b
Extra Relief Option (Two penalty strokes)
As an extra relief option when a player's ball is in a bunker, for a total of two penalty strokes, the player may take back-on-the-line relief outside the bunker under Rule 19.2b
