Senior Captain David Barlow presents Derek Weller with the Annual Stableford Trophy
It's always nice to break the news to players that they are in line for a Seniors trophy.
Senior stalwart Derek Weller had headed home to watch football on TV when I rang him to ask if he would like to return to the clubhouse to collect his Trophy.
Are you sure? he asked. I didn't think I would be anywhere close.
But, yes, Derek was the winner with 40 points and a card which amazingly included three blobs.
One behind him on 39 was George Simmons and in third place, on 38, was Chris Dennis.
Divisional prizes were won by Rob Bage (up to 14 shots), Phil Bateman (15-19) and Clive Thompson (20 Plus)
Conditions were a little warm but much lower than the heatwave we endured the week before.
Even so, the JOG course, with its fairway irrigation, was in fine fettle.
Even the halfway house was open for welcome cold drinks.
Raffle prizes - £10 added to pro-shop accounts - were won by Chris Sullivan, Paul Clark, Chris Ellis and Ian Maddison.
The result moved the dial on the Senior Section Golfer of the Year leaderboard leaving the Top 5 as Paul Conibear (35pts), Peter Imray (35pts), Ian Maddison (34pts), Rob Bage (28 pts) and Terry Domagala (28 pts)
