Seniors 4BBB Trophy April 27 2021

Winners Derek Page and Jim Peacock

Congratulations to former Seniors Captain Jim Peacock and his partner Derek Page who won the Seniors Four Ball Better Ball Trophy with an impressive 45 points.

In second place, with 44 points, were Gordon Goodchild and Kevin Donnelly and in third place, on 43 points, were Clive Gardiner and Rafe Bateson.

Commiserations to Dave Wood and Len Greaves, plus Rob Anderson and Richard Coventry, who also had 43 points but lost out on countback.

A total of 92 players competed for the trophy in mostly cool but dry conditions on the Carthagena course.

The average number of Stableford points scored per pair was 39.

And finally! Eagle-eyed Mike Tomblin spotted a fox cub, which appeared lost as it crossed the 18th fairway in front of photographer David Crosby. See picture below with Vernon Toms in the far distance. Was it a vixen or a Srixon? Answers on a post card please.

Rex Bullock Trophy April 13 2021

A message from Seniors Captain Bill Walker

What a mixture of feelings to be playing our first competition of 2021. Such a well prepared course and such pleasant weather to enjoy our new-found freedoms. It was so nice to see so many of you out there battling the course and each other once more. I so wanted to experience the noise and banter of a post competition presentation.  But that, hopefully, is for the future. For now my congratulations to those who did well and commiserations  to those who, like me, did not perform to their aspirations this time. We'll get there next time.
I picked up a fair amount of constructive critical feedback on the way round which I will discuss with the Club in due course. Also, a fair amount of appreciation for the tremendous amount of work undertaken by your committee. Thank you for that. It really is appreciated. It is a lot of work, but when we know its appreciated it makes such a difference. Be assured, there is still much to do, but with your support we will succeed.
Thank you all!
Your Captain,
BillW

Winner: Peter Salmon

The Senior Section celebrated the end of the third Covid pandemic lockdown with a full turnout for the Rex Bullock Trophy.

After around 100 days without golf, the competition season kicked off under blue skies on Tuesday April 13, 2021 with 102 players glad to be out on the course again.

The competition was played on the John ‘O Gaunt course looking at its absolute Spring best with plenty of evidence of the hard work that has been going on behind the scenes by the greens team.

Congratulations to Peter Salmon who managed to play to his handicap of 18 and came first with 36 points.

Barry Donovan came second with 35 points and Rafe Bateson came third with 34 points on countback. Four other players came in with 34 points.

A creditable mention should also go to Immediate Past Captain David Gauge who managed a Barnes Wallis on the 4th, skipping off the water in the lake and landing just short of the green. He then managed to chip on and sink the putt for a par!

Stats for the competition showed there was one eagle, 16 birdies and 256 pars. Twos were recorded by Tony Lloyd on the 4th, Chris Sullivan on the 10th and Andy Shilton on the 16th.

Third place: Rafe Bateson
